What’s better than families helping other families? Hopelink offers a lot of different programs for families that need help, whether they need help with housing, food, transportation, education, or more. Along with making donations, people starting with children from the ages of seven to eleven can volunteer. Volunteer opportunities with Hopelink include sorting food donations, cleaning up food banks, organizing clothes, and more. After filling out an application form and being chosen, volunteers will be able to work at the Hopelink locations in Redmond, Shoreline, Sno-Valley, Bellevue, and Kirkland/Northshore.

Organizations such as the Seattle Children’s Hospital do their best to make sure that the children of the Emerald City are taken care of when they’re at their worst physically. While many of their volunteer positions do require a minimum age of sixteen, volunteering at the Seattle Children’s Hospital might be a great thing to do with your teenagers. Some of the volunteer opportunities that both teenagers and adults can do together include clerical support, office support, working at the gift shop, being a messenger, and patient and family relations.

If you and your family want to help those that have risked their lives and sacrificed everything in order for you to feel safe and enjoy your freedom, then Heartbeat may be the organization for you to volunteer for. Heartbeat offers both therapeutic and morale building programs involving activities such as scuba diving and riding horses for veterans that have suffered in battle and their families. In addition to making donations at multiple drop-off locations, people can offer to volunteer in a variety of capacities after filling out an online application. If one is not chosen to volunteer then one can also, with their family, use a variety of different options to raise funds for the organization.

Since its founding over a century ago by the heroic Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has helped countless people throughout the United States by providing emergency assistance, disaster relief and education during the most dire times of their lives. The American Red Cross is always in need of volunteers, especially since seven percent of their entire workforce is entirely made up of them. In addition to adult volunteers, those of fourteen years and older can join the youth service groups known as Red Cross Clubs. And of course, if you’re of age, you can always donate blood.
